Expertus and TrainingIndustry.com Study Uncovers Communication Gaps
Mountain View, CA – March 13, 2008 – Expertus, a global provider of services that optimize the business impact of learning, announced more findings from its newest study entitled “Training Efficiency: Optimizing Costs.” The research, conducted in collaboration with TrainingIndustry.com, found that training leaders often struggle with communicating business metrics to senior management, making discussions of training efficiency difficult.
These findings, in addition to a wide variety of other survey results on this topic, can be viewed at: www.expertus.com/survey/results08/CostEfficiency.pdf
As training executives feel the budget burn, they are being forced to defend their value. Respondents of the survey indicated that training leaders often struggle to use advanced and business outcome-based metrics to communicate with senior management about the impact and efficiency of their operations. Only 23% of the respondents indicate they use these types of metrics, while the majority (62%) use learning metrics such as Kirkpatrick’s Levels I-III and volume-based metrics on the amount of training or learners.
“This isn’t just a language barrier between the training organization and senior management, it is having defensible business arguments that illustrate the value of training,” said Mohana Radhakrishnan, Founder and Vice President of Client Services for Expertus. “Busy metrics no longer suffice from an executive level and it’s time for training organizations to turn their data into actionable information.”
These and more survey findings will be discussed in-depth during a webinar, “9 Ways to Trim Operational Expenses to Fund Strategic Learning,” hosted by Expertus on March 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. ET. For more information and to register, visit https://www.expertus.com/RSVP/pr.
“The upcoming webinar will discuss the survey results and address the critical topic of optimizing costs,” added Doug Harward, CEO of TrainingIndustry.com. “An emerging skill requirement for training executives is to think and speak on a business strategy level. And a great place to start is to develop the ability to effectively communicate with executives about corporate learning strategy, as opposed to discussing academically how individuals are learning.”
“Training Efficiency: Optimizing Costs” was a survey of 113 training leaders across the country from companies of all sizes in a variety of industries. It was conducted in February 2008 by Expertus and TrainingIndustry.com to measure the budget challenges, pressures and opportunities facing training leaders today. This was the first of four surveys in 2008 to gather market data on efficiency in training organizations.
